Q & A: How Can I Know if I’m Really in Love?
A:
Relationships are very important. A relationship can change the course of your life, especially if it leads to marriage. That is why it’s so important to recognize that in a relationship you can experience many emotions that look and feel like love but are not true, lasting love. The emotions we often call love can come and go quite easily, but true love (the kind that lasts a lifetime) must be developed and cultivated.
In order for a relationship to be truly successful, it must have God (the source of love) as its foundation. Second Corinthians 6:14 says, “Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?” As a believer, you must only consider other committed believers as possible candidates for marriage.
Don’t feel like you’re alone in this process. You can receive direction from the Holy Spirit where your relationships are concerned. Our heavenly Father desires for you to know His will in every area of your life including whom you should marry! God will enlighten you to know His will through your own spirit as you spend time in His Word and in prayer.
We encourage you to invest time in understanding one another’s goals and dreams. Also, you should both study the Word and pray regularly so you can be led by the Spirit of God in establishing a marriage foundation that will last a lifetime!
