QUESTION: What Exactly is “The Blessing”- Kenneth Copeland
ANSWER:
To understand the full intent and extent of The Blessing, you have to return to where it was first expressed—in the creation of man. In the Garden of Eden, God’s intent was for man to have dominion over the whole earth.
We read about it in Genesis 1:26-28, “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.’ So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.’”
“And God blessed them, and God said….” The Eden Blessing was that man would be fruitful and live in dominion by aligning his thoughts with God’s thoughts and his behavior with God’s way of doing things. This same Blessing spoken over Adam (Genesis 1:28) was spoken to Noah and his sons after the Flood (Genesis 9:1) and to Abraham and his descendants through the high priest Melchizedek (Genesis 14:18-20, 18:19, 35:2; Deuteronomy 4:9). It is the assignment to take the Garden of Eden—every provision of heaven—to the whole earth (Isaiah 51:2-3, 64:4). And it is the promise made available to everyone who would believe and receive Jesus’ victory over the curse of sin and death (Galatians 3:7-9, 13-14, 29).
As the Eden Blessing is the promise God gave to man, the Eden system is God’s way of doing things. The way God brought His Blessing into the earth was by speaking. He took heavenly seed, which is His Word, and planted it in the earth (“And God said…”). Using the same system, redeemed man does God’s will and brings God’s provision of health, restored relationships and provision in every area of life. We do it by planting God’s Word in our hearts, speaking it with our mouths and tending it until it produces its harvest (Mark 11:22-24).
God’s system of blessing is clearly illustrated in Proverbs 10:22 which says, “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” The original Eden Blessing to be fruitful and walk in dominion was the last thing Jesus spoke to His disciples (Luke 24:49-50; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18), and it is still available today! God’s desire is to bless His people as they are obedient to Him.
