Q & A: Is Mormonism the Same as Christianity?-Kenneth Copeland

Answer:

Mormonism certainly appears to be closely related to Christianity. It claims to follow the Bible. But there is a major difference—Mormonism does not teach that Jesus is the only way to salvation.

Mormonism teaches that one must also accept Joseph Smith as God’s prophet and Brigham Young as his successor in order to enter the kingdom of God (information from Brigham Young’s Journal of Discourses). In contrast, the Bible declares anyone who makes Jesus the Lord of his or her life will be saved and enter His kingdom. Romans 10:9 states, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation is a free gift that was purchased by the blood of Jesus. Salvation comes through Jesus and not by any other (Acts 4:12).

Though Kenneth Copeland Ministries does not presently publish any literature on different religions, there have been many volumes published on the topic of Mormon philosophy. One book we recommend, which we trust will be of help as you seek the wisdom of the Lord, is Beyond Mormonism: An Elder’s Story by former Mormon missionary and elder James R. Spencer. He is an evangelical pastor who has written and lectured extensively on Mormonism and is a widely recognized authority on this subject. His book is available at online retailers.
